Bee Cave Police Department officers who work off-hours shifts, are bilingual and train other officers in the field will see some extra pay in their checks after the City Council unanimously agreed to stipend payments.

Bee Cave police Chief Brian Jones requested the stipends at the council’s March 22 meeting. Jones said the extra pay is consistent with other area law enforcement agencies, referencing agencies in Buda, Pflugerville, Rollingwood and Austin.

The amounts requested and approved were an extra $100 a month for bilingual officers and $1 an hour extra for field training officers and officers working from 6 p.m.-6 a.m.

Jones said the department is hiring for four vacancies, which include two newly added positions and two positions that need to be filled due to turnover.

Council Member Kevin Hight spoke on the importance of retaining officers on the Bee Cave police force.

“I think we should effectively play game to keep it on a level playing field,” he said. “I want to try to incentivize officers instead of them going to another agency that pays these stipends.”
