The city of Lakeway will hold an election May 7 for three City Council seats.

The decision to hold an election was decided at the Jan. 18 City Council meeting to accommodate the expiring terms of Council Members Laurie Higginbotham, Steve Smith and Louis Mastrangelo. All three council members have the ability to run for an additional term per the city’s charter, according to the city.

The first day to file an application to run on the ballot is Jan. 19 with a deadline of Feb. 18 at 5 p.m., according to the city. The city is required by law to order the election no later than Feb. 18.

Early voting by in-person appearance at Travis County voting sites will take place April 25-May 3. The city has not received necessary documents from Travis County indicating polling locations, according to Mayor Tom Kilgore. Due to this, polling locations currently included in the ordinance will likely change, and the ordinance will be updated at a future council meeting, he said.
