Bee Cave City Council on July 28 approved an ordinance calling for a special election to fill a vacancy on the council, according to City Manager Clint Garza.

The election will fill the seat previously occupied by Bill Goodwin, who was removed by a unanimous council vote June 17 for violating the city’s home rule charter, according to a report by an independent law firm.

According to a previous Community Impact Newspaper article, Goodwin, a council member since 2005, violated the city's home rule charter. The report stated that he did so by "impermissibly giving orders to subordinates, and impermissibly pressuring subordinates of the city manager to communicate information to Goodwin before that information was made known to the city manager."

On June 29, Goodwin filed a suit against the city's mayor and council members.

The winner of the special election will serve until the seat's next election in 2022.
