Two prominent city centers in Lakeway will benefit from a more than $40,000 donation from a local civic group that could help increase interest and boost revenue for both.

During its Dec. 16 meeting, Lakeway City Council voted to accept a total donation of $40,643 from the Lakeway Civic Corp. The funds will benefit the city’s Swim Center and Heritage Club.

The donation comes following a September request from the Lakeway Parks and Recreation Department for improvements to the Lakeway Heritage Center and improvements and supplies for the Lakeway Swim Center.

In a written request from the parks department, Director Andra Bennett stated the archive room at the city’s Heritage Center is inadequately sized for additional files and workspace for larger projects.

"I'm really excited that we're going to be able to move forward with this donation," Lakeway Mayor Sandy Cox said.

Twelve aquatic fitness boards for the Swim Center account for $6,720 of the donation, and the remaining $33,943 for the Heritage Center will go toward a redesign of the space that will place an archivist at the front of the facility and increase security. City information also states the money will pay for a new hospitality cart and a large screen television to showcase history videos.
