Reader—in the case of the Travis County Commissioners Court—the five-member elected board, including a judge and one commissioner representing each of Travis County’s four precincts—does quite a bit within the unincorporated areas of Lake Travis and Westlake.

According to the court’s website, the commissioners and county judge enact county policy and administer county government, including:

• setting Travis County’s tax rate;

• determining fees for county services; and

• determining how county revenue will be dispersed among its departments to provide for community
services.

The court meets in a voting session on Tuesdays at
9 a.m. on the first floor of the Travis County Administration Building, 700 Lavaca St., Austin. The meetings are open to the public and broadcast live on TCTV-17.

Currently seated on the Travis County Commissioners Court are: Judge Sarah Eckhardt, Precinct 1 Commissioner Jeff Travillion, Precinct 2 Commissioner Brigid Shea, Precinct 3 Commissioner Gerald Daugherty and Precinct 4 Commissioner Margaret Gomez.
