The NFL Alumni Association will host a Sports Legends Bowling Tournament with veteran NFL and Olympic athletes Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. to raise money for the Special Olympics Texas Winter Games on Feb. 18-20. The event has a $55 admission fee that goes toward the Winter Games and will be at High5, an event and entertainment venue in Lakeway at 1502 S. RM 620.

Roughly 50 veteran athletes will be in attendance, including Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs running back; Fozzy Whitaker, Cleveland Browns running back and kick returner; Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Lamarr Houston; Detroit Lions defensive tackle Doug English; and several others. The event will feature a bowling tournament with seven teams sponsored by local businesses as well as light snacks, conversations and autographs with the athletes. The event will be the largest assembly of NFL players and Olympians in Lake Travis-Westlake history, High5 owner Scott Emley said.

The competition is sponsored by the Hill Country Galleria, Broadway Bank, Primrose Schools and other local entities. Special Olympics Texas is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing year-round sports training and competitions to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Winter Games are the first large-scale event the organization has hosted since the pandemic began in March 2020.

“I’m so humbled by how [local business] has stepped up to support a really cool local event that does more than just athletics,” Emley said. “We feel really good about raising the money for it because of that.”

The event is open to the public and will allow 100 people to register to attend. Registration can be completed on the Eventbrite page for the event.
