The refuge gives out a limited number of public permits for dove hunting and big game hunting each hunting season. Dove hunting permits are first come first serve and the Texas Parks and Wildlife lottery permit system will issue the big game permits.
The refuge will open up more than 240 acres for dove hunting on the first four days of the dove hunting season and more than 11,000 for the big game hunts.
Big game hunting season dates:
Youth Hunt November 10-12
General Hunt 1 November 17-19
General Hunt 2 December 1-3
General Hunt 3 December 8-10
Mandatory orientation for each hunt begins on Friday at noon. Hunting will begin Friday at 1 p.m. and will end when legal hunting hours end on Sunday.
The refuge will provide accommodations for hunters with disabilities and all dove hunters must use non-toxic shot that is approved for waterfowl hunting.
