Residents of the Lake Travis-Westlake area can cast their vote May 3 for a variety of local elections including school board seats, council seats and propositions.

The details

Election day polling centers will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at designated destinations throughout the county, with local options including:
  • Bee Cave area: Bee Cave City Hall, Lake Travis ISD Transportation Center
  • Lakeway area: Lake Travis ISD Educational Development Center, Lakeway Activity Center
  • Spicewood: Briarcliff POA Community Center
  • Westlake area: Randalls Flagship West Lake Hills, Riverbend Centre, Lost Creek Limited District, Laura Bush Community Library

The city of Bee Cave is asking residents to plan ahead for elections this year, as the election falls on the same day as the Pecan Street Festival.

"Increased traffic and larger crowds are expected around Bee Cave City Hall on Election Day, May 3, due to the Pecan Street Festival,” Bee Cave officials said in an emailed statement. “Bee Cave residents may vote at any Travis County polling location during early voting or on Election Day, May 3."

Texas voters must present a valid form of photo identification at the polls when voting in person, according to www.votetexas.gov. Options include:
  • A Texas driver's license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety
  • A Texas election identification certificate issued by the DPS
  • A Texas personal identification card issued by the DPS
  • A Texas handgun license issued by the DPS
  • U.S. military identification card containing the person’s photo
  • U.S. citizenship certificate containing the person’s photo
  • U.S. passport book or card
Those without an acceptable form of photo ID can fill out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polls and present an alternative form of ID, such as a bank statement, government check or utility bill. For more information, visit www.votetexas.gov/voting/need-id.html.

Lakeway


Proposition A
  • The reauthorization of a local sales and use tax in the City of Lakeway at the rate of one fourth of one percent (1/4%) to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets. The tax expires on the fourth anniversary of the date of this election unless the imposition of the tax is reauthorized.

Proposition B
  • Shall Section 4.01(a) be amended to require the City Manager to reside within the boundaries of the Lake Travis Independent School District, instead of within the City limits?
Proposition C
  • Shall Section 4.06 be deleted, thereby eliminating the volunteer office of City Treasurer, and other Charter provisions be amended as necessary to remove references to the City Treasurer?
Proposition D
  • Shall Section 4.07 be amended so that the policies and procedures adopted or changed by the Chief of Police for the Police Department shall be approved by the City Manager and reported to the Council at least annually, instead of having the City Council approve them when adopted by the Chief of Police?
Proposition E
  • Shall Section 7.01 be amended to change the process for appointing members of City Boards and Commissions so that the Mayor and each Council member shall nominate a person for a one-year appointment to each Board or Commission, subject to Council approval?
Proposition F
  • Shall Section 7.05 be deleted in its entirety, thereby eliminating the Board of Ethics? Council would still be required to adopt a City Ethics Ordinance, which applies to all City officials, employees, and members of City Boards, Commissioners, or Committees.
Proposition G
  • Shall Section 7.06 be deleted in its entirety, thereby eliminating the City Building Commission, which is responsible under the City's development ordinances for determining whether to grant certain variances and waivers; and to transfer those functions to other City Boards or Commissions, or to City staff, as determined by Council?
