The Texas Education Agency released the spring 2025 STAAR scores for each district and campus June 17.
Zooming in
The TEA uses "approaches grade level" as one of four categories to score STAAR performances in each subject. This level is considered a passing score, with students likely to succeed in the next grade or course but could need targeted academic intervention.
Of the 15 third through eighth grade subjects tested, year-over-year performance in EISD:
- Improved in five scores
- Declined in six scores, although most of the declines were between 1-3 percentage points
- Saw no change in four scores
According to a TEA news release, the trend is in-line with statewide data, which shows seventh grade math scores "dipped modestly" alongside fifth grade scores.
"With [reading] scores now surpassing pre-pandemic levels, we are seeing meaningful signs of academic recovery and progress," Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said in the release. "While this year also saw some improvements in math, clearly more work is needed.”
Looking back
The state rates districts and individual campuses on an A-F scale based on various measures of student achievement, including STAAR performances.
The TEA released the 2023 A-F ratings in April following a year-and-a-half-long lawsuit that blocked the scores from being released.
EISD overall received an A rating, scoring 94 out of 100 possible points. Valley View Elementary received a B rating, while the eight other campuses received an A rating.
