Check out the latest Lake Travis ISD updates from the May 21 board meeting, including new board members, new human sexuality curriculum and the purchase of property for the district's future eighth elementary school.

One incumbent, two new board members sworn in

Jonathan Bove and Kris Woodcock were sworn in as the new Place 4 and Place 5 board members following the May 3 election.

Bove takes the place of former trustee John Aoueille, and Woodcock takes the place of former trustee Kim Flasch. Both Aoueille and Flasch did not run for re-election.

Incumbent Erin Archer was re-elected to Place 3 and also sworn in.

The board later named Lauren White as board president, Phillip Davis as board vice president and Archer as board secretary for the 2025-26 school year.

New human sexuality curriculum approved

The board approved Choosing the Best as its new human sexuality curriculum for 2025-26, with Woodcock abstaining from the vote.

Members of the School Health Advisory Council, or SHAC, first presented the new curriculum at the April 16 meeting.

Choosing the Best offers its curriculum at no cost to the district. Per its website, it offers abstinence-centered curriculum for sixth through 10th grade students.

Woodcock, who has served on the SHAC for three years, voted against Choosing the Best—along with the other two curriculum options presented—saying she believes it challenges the “principle of separation of church and state” and includes content based on “outdated and ideologically-biased research.”

“I believe that the program was strategically designed to hold public school districts over a barrel, offering an appealing, free option during times of financial strain,” Woodcock said. “It's another example of how underfunding pressures districts into choices that may not reflect the best interests of students.”

District officials said the curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS, and that the SHAC surveyed students, staff, parents and community members before selecting the curriculum.

Property purchased for future elementary No. 8

Following negotiations with property owner WTF Harrell Property Management, the board approved the purchase of property off Hamilton Pool Road for $105,000.

The site will be part of the district’s eighth elementary school, which Community Impact previously reported as slated to open for the 2026-27 school year.

Decreased enrollment and higher home prices and interest rates have led to delays, according to district officials. A decision to start construction will be made by January in order for the school to open by August 2027.
