Outgoing Eanes ISD trustee Ellen Balthazar is being honored for her 24 years on the board and work to preserve Eanes' history.

The board of trustees unanimously approved a resolution to rename the Eanes History Center to the Ellen Balthazar Eanes History Center during a special meeting May 13.

Explained

Per the resolution, Balthazar—who first elected to the board in 2001—is EISD's longest-tenured trustee in district history.

She has also served as co-facilitator of the history center, which houses maps, photographs, audiotapes, digitized papers and other artifacts related to Eanes' history.

Additionally, EISD second graders have visited the center as part of a two-week unit of study since 2017.

"The Eanes History Center, also known as the Yellow House, exists due to Mrs. Balthazar's hard work and efforts," the resolution states. "Mrs. Balthazar organized presentations and events to preserve the rich history of the area and brought the past to life for generations of young learners by welcoming hundreds of elementary students each year and nurturing them in them a lasting connection to local heritage."
