Crowson, who previously served as general counsel for Midland ISD, will begin providing the district legal guidance beginning Jan. 21, according to district information. He will replace former LTISD General Counsel Allyson Collins, who resigned in June to accept a position in the private sector, said Marco Alvarado, executive director of communications and community relations.
The background
During his tenure at Midland ISD, Crowson provided district leaders with legal advice, formed contracts, guided the development of district policies, and monitored legislative updates. Crowson will fulfill similar duties for LTISD, Alvarado said.
He worked in school administration as the executive director of choice programs, access and support for Ector County ISD. Additionally, Crowson served as director of planning and school choice, leadership coordinator, and a high school principal.
Since 2011, Crowson has been licensed as an attorney with the State Bar of Texas. He graduated from the University of Houston Law Center with a Juris Doctor, Lamar University with a Master of Education in educational administration, and The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in government, according to district information.
In case you missed it
LTISD has undergone several leadership changes in recent weeks. Former Police Chief Andy Michael resigned to work as a consultant at a nonprofit in late December.
At a Dec. 17 special-called meeting, the board of trustees voted to place Superintendent Paul Norton on a paid administrative leave and launch an investigation following allegations of misconduct. The board appointed Pam Sanchez, LTISD assistant superintendent for business services, as acting superintendent in Norton’s place.
The hiring of the district’s new legal counsel is not related to the investigation as it will be conducted by a third party, Alvarado told Community Impact.
