Community members in Lake Travis ISD may now apply to volunteer on a districtwide committee for the 2024-25 school year.

The district is accepting committee applications as it looks to strengthen its partnership with the community and offer more opportunities for public participation, according to LTISD information.

The overview

Parents, students and community members may serve on the following advisory committees:
  • Advisory Committee for Education
  • Community Advisory Committee
  • Diversity Awareness Committee
  • Library and Instructional Resource Reconsideration Committee
  • LT CLASS Project
  • Safety and Security Committee
  • School Health Advisory Council
  • Strategic Planning Committee
Committee applications must be received by noon Aug. 23.

Submitting an application does not guarantee appointment to a committee, according to district information. Selected members will be notified prior to their committee’s first meeting date, said Marco Alvarado, executive director of communications and community relations.

The specifics

The Advisory Committee for Education provides feedback and communicates with LTISD staff and the board of trustees. The committee helps assess students’ educational outcomes, and determine goals and strategies to improve student achievement, according to district information.

Parents, staff, community members and local business owners can help the district address growth in the area by serving on the Community Advisory Committee.

The Diversity Awareness Committee provides feedback to district staff and the board of trustees in creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. The committee seeks to promote empathy, balance and understanding amongst students, staff and families from diverse backgrounds, according to LTISD.

Library and Instructional Resource Reconsideration Committee will include a pool of members that may be randomly selected to review challenged materials such as library books. The voting body of each committee will include a campus librarian, and at least three parents and one instructional staff member who is familiar with the material.

The LT CLASS Project, which is facilitated by Superintendent Paul Norton and senior district staff, aims to strengthen relationships between district officials and community members through seminars and other activities featuring information about the district’s operations.

Community members seeking to provide feedback on safety and security measures in the district can join the Safety and Security Committee.

The School Health Advisory Committee recommends elementary and secondary school health programs, and addresses nutrition, health education, physical activity, and substance abuse prevention. SHAC members serve two- or three-year terms, according to LTISD information.

The Strategic Planning Committee works to empower students to grow academically, socially and personally through education. The committee is focused on the holistic well-being of students, staff and community members.
