Student medications

Per the district website, EISD nurses will no longer accept or administer over-the-counter medication, including ibuprofen and acetaminophen, without a prescription from a doctor or dentist. More information can be found on the required authorization form.

Attendance codes

Student absences will now be coded as "funded" or "unfunded" instead of "excused" or "unexcused." In early March, over 300 students were reported as chronically absent for the 2023-24 school year, or having missed 17 or more school days, as previously reported by Community Impact.

According to district officials, EISD receives approximately $53 per day per student in average daily attendance, or ADA. Students who attend school or have a funded reason for being absent generate ADA revenue, which accounts for 81% of the district's operating budget. The district loses about $1 million per year due to unfunded absences.

More information on attendance, including what are considered funded absences, truancy filings and the 90% rule for the time needed to be in school to receive course credit, can be found here.

Communication tools

ParentSquare will replace Skylert as the district's notification system for both emergency and general district notifications through email, text and push notifications. Per the district website, ParentSquare will automatically generate an account for each parent using contact information from Skyward. The system will be accessible online or through the app.

Funds can now be added to student lunch accounts through LINQ, which will also send low-balance alerts; allow for allergy, dietary or other purchase restrictions to be enabled; provide free or reduced-price lunch program applications; and more.

The district will also utilize SMART tag, an app that can track students' bus locations in real time and send bus delay alerts.
