The board previously discussed creating a PFC during its May 7 meeting.
Per the Texas Legislature, sponsors—or the board of trustees, in this case—are authorized to create PFC's to finance, construct and equip public facilities such as administrative offices, education buildings or affordable housing options for teachers.
While there are no concrete plans for what the board will use the PFC for, Superintendent Jeff Arnett said it gives the board some flexibility.
"We've said all along as we look at the potential of affordable housing for our staff, it's probably going to take a combination of a lot of different partners and avenues, and this is simply one more tool now that we have to potentially do something exciting for our staff at some point in the future," Arnett said.
