The Eanes ISD board of trustees are searching for potential properties that will offer affordable housing to the district’s staff.

The board of trustees approved an agreement with the Texas Workforce Housing Foundation for the affordable housing search during a board meeting Dec. 12.

The Texas Workforce Housing Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that partners with Texas school districts to provide affordable housing options to district staff.


Eanes ISD employees were surveyed by district officials last year, and 68% indicated that they would live in a community that provides housing for EISD employees at a reduced rent, Superintendent Jeff Arnett said.

In 2022, the median family income for the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area was $110,300 for a family of four, according to the city of Austin Housing and Planning Department.

“Housing costs in our area are especially high,” board President James Spradley said Dec. 12. “I also know that many of our teachers and other staff members, including custodial staff, food services staff, bus drivers, maintenance workers and others, live outside of our district because of the high cost of living.”
