St. Michael’s Catholic Academy announced May 5 that the board of trustees approved Heidi Sloan as the next head of school. She will assume the role July 1 to replace Dawn Nichols, according to a media release from St. Michael’s.

Sloan has served as the private school’s director of academics for the past five years, and in that time has worked closely with Nichols, the release states. She began her career at St. Michael’s eight years ago as a French instructor, prior to her appointment as the humanities chair in 2014.

She holds a Master's of Education from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in French from Furman University and a Bachelor of Science from Kennesaw State University.

As director of academics, Sloan spearheaded the school’s Winter Term program—a global travel internship program currently in its sixth year.

“I have had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Nichols for the last five years, and the school is well-positioned for the exciting growth and expansion opportunities already in process,” Sloan said in the release.
