Students from abroad are spending the 2018-19 school year at Lake Travis High School as part of the Education First High School Exchange Year program.

Of the four, two of the visiting girls are from Germany, though one is originally from Turkey; one is from Italy; and one is from Slovakia.

All of the students are staying with local families, said Brie Stockwell, EF High School Exchange program coordinator.

Stockwell said that many times when students come to this area from abroad, they have preconceived notions about what Texas will look like and are often surprised at all the green foliage in the Austin area.

The students will be here the entire school year and experience U.S. holidays as well as school traditions such as homecoming and prom.

"They are here long enough for the Lake Travis kids to be able to get to know them and develop great friendships," Stockwell said.
