Lake Travis ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday evening and discussed next year's instructional school day, cancelled the district's May 6 board election, and honored Lake Travis High School sports teams.

1. In order to get to 75,600 minutes of instructional time included in the proposed school calendar, five minutes will be added to the school day starting in the 2017-18 school year.

Elementary schools across the district will start class at 7:40 a.m. and end class at 2:55 p.m. The district’s middle schools and high school will have their school days aligned, with class beginning at 8:50 a.m. and ending at 4:05 p.m., said Assistant Superintendent Holly Morris-Kuentz.

2. Although previously announced by the district March 3, the board officially approved the cancellation of the district’s trustee election and declared incumbents William Beard and Bob Dorsett winners. The two will be sworn into office at the May board meeting.

3. The Board honored members of the Lake Travis High School swimming and diving team who participated in the University Interscholastic League State Championship Meet in February.

The boys team placed fourth overall, while the girls team placed 15th, said Marco Alvarado, Lake Travis ISD director of communications.

4. The board also honored student athletes Kobie Powers and Jordan Strmiska, who participated in February's UIL State Wrestling Tournament.
