Our February issue contains a couple of stories that touch on a topic of growing concern in western Travis County.

Policymakers and other leaders throughout the metro area are evaluating which areas show the most need for more first responders.

Inside (see Page 17) is a story about the Austin Fire Department holding an open house in the Loop 360 and Davenport area of Northwest Austin. Following Austin City Council’s allocation of several million dollars for underserved areas, AFD officials spoke with residents about what location might best house a new station.

Another story (see Page 35) breaks down a May county election regarding the addition of an emergency services district that would service certain parts of Lakeway and adjacent neighborhoods.

Not all western Travis County areas need more first responders, but as more people move here, the topic comes more to the forefront. Look for a thorough examination of the issue in the March Lake Travis-Westlake edition of Community Impact Newspaper.
