A proposed development called the Balcones Point Planned Unit Development will be up for discussion and possible action Aug. 2 at the Lakeway Zoning and Planning Commission meeting.

Developer and home builder Cascade Homes has submitted an application to have 33.8 acres rezoned from agricultural to PUD, which would make way for a mixed-use development comprised of residential and commercial. The land is located at 2811 S. RR 620, Lakeway, and is undeveloped.

The background

The city has received nearly two dozen proposals for the property as it is one of the very few remaining vacant plots of land in Lakeway, according to agenda documents. Previous proposals had tried to rezone the land for higher-density development.

However, city staff has worked with the PUD development officials to work through modifications of the proposal.

Zooming in

The proposal for Balcones Point PUD is for 130 condominium units that will have either three- or four-bedrooms with an average square footage of 1,800, according to the documents.

There will also be two multitenant retail buildings totaling 9,000 square feet.

What’s next?

The zoning and planning commission will discuss and make a recommendation to the City Council regarding the zoning change Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing Road, Lakeway. It will then be on a City Council agenda for further action at a later date.
