Lakeway officials discussed the relaxation of several restrictions within the city code during a special called meeting April 6.

City Manager Julie Oakley explained to City Council members during the meeting why relaxed enforcement could help Lakeway residents, at least through the duration of the city's ongoing disaster declaration.

The first part of the discussion centered on relaxing signage rules.

Oakley explained local businesses are putting up banners and signage that would otherwise be against city rules to let customers know they are open for drive-thru and pickup business.

Local small businesses are searching for any way to let customers know how to patronize their establishments, Oakley said.

Oakley also sought direction from council on how to handle recreational vehicles in peoples' driveways, which is also against city code if the vehicle is there for longer than a certain amount of time.

Residents have relatives who are quarantining in the vehicles for various reasons, Oakley said.

Council agreed to relax restrictions for those behaviors until the city's disaster declarations are lifted.
