Samsung Electronics plans to double the size of its research and development center by moving into a building on Loop 360 in the Westlake area.
The move to the San Clemente offices, 3900 N. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, will occur at the beginning of 2017, Richard Paddock, an office specialist with HPI Real Estate Services & Investments, told Community Impact Newspaper July 21. HPI developed the San Clemente complex.
Paddock said Samsung, an electronics company that specializes in digital products and media, is leasing 112,000 square feet in the 250,000 square-foot office building near the intersection of Loop 360 and Westlake Drive, taking over a portion of the first floor and all of the second and third floors.
He said Samsung is joining the software and technology companies VMWare, Innography and Maxim Integrated in the building.
Samsung’s current space at the Austin R&D Center on RR 2222 in Ladera Bend was created in 2010 to develop high-performance, low-power architecture and designs for Samsung’s System LSI division.
Samsung started in Austin in 1996, when it began construction of its first plant.
Paddock said the new space would continue to be used as a center for chip design.
He said he was thrilled to have a company with “quality and prestige” such as Samsung move into the office space.
“This is a great boost to the overall San Clemente office site,” he said.
