Effective Oct.1, Lakeway City Council regular meetings will start at 6 p.m. every third Monday of the month instead of their usually scheduled time of 6:30 p.m.

The motion carried with a vote of 5-1-0 with Council Member Louis Mastrangelo opposing and Lakeway Mayor Thomas Kilgore abstaining.

The ordinance was initially brought before the council by Council Member Kelly Brynteson, who said this decision would be consequential to council members, staff and community members.

“That 30 extra minutes on the backend when you walk out at 1:15 a.m. would surely feel a little bit better at 12:45 a.m.,” she said.

Brynteson also pointed out that both the Lake Travis ISD board of trustees and Bee Cave City Council start their meetings at 6 p.m.

Council Member Sanjeev Kumar and Mastrangelo both said they were concerned the time change might make it harder for people who work in the city to make it on time.

The change required a vote by council, as the existing city ordinance states that council must meet in chambers on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

Special meetings do not have a required start time.
