The Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce received $2,500 from Lakeway City Council from the city’s hotel occupancy tax fund.

Chamber President Laura Mitchell told council the money would be used for travel to and promotion at the 2019 Texas Local Firefighters Pension Conference in Amarillo. Mitchell said the funding would go toward travel to Amarillo, registration and booth setup at the conference, a hospitality suite and giveaway gift bags.

Information from the city of Lakeway states projections for attendees to the conference is estimated at 200 people, and the Lakeway Resort and Spa has reserved meeting space and room blocks for the three-day event.

Mitchell said she confirmed the funding constituted proper use under state law pertaining to hotel occupancy tax allocation.

"This is pretty low risk, and there's nothing better than having firefighters come to our town," Mayor Sandy Cox said.

Council approved the allocation during the Sept. 16 regular meeting.
