MAP: Vail Divide Road closure could begin Jan. 15, public hearing set

A stretch of Vail Divide Road between SH 71 and Cinca Terra Drive in western Travis County could be closed for up to 12 months.

Construction could begin as early as Jan. 15, according to county documents.

Here is a look at proposed road closures and detour routes.

Crews need to reconfigure the road to allow for anticipated traffic flow related to the new Bee Cave Middle School, under construction near SH 71.

No residents live on Vail Divide Road between SH 71 and Cinca Terra Drive, according to county documents.

Other routes are available into and out of the neighborhood. The proposed closure will require a detour route of approximately a half-mile. However, residents will still have access to their property.

A public hearing will take place Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom, located at 700 Lavaca St., Austin. Residents who would like to speak on this issue are invited to attend.

  1. I hope they plan to put either a temporary traffic signal or, preferably, a center median barrier at Del Dios Way or there are going to be a LOT of collisions because folks are not going to go down to the Vail Dv light to backtrack to Del Dios. They will turn left at Del Dios no matter how many cross lines are painted in the suicide lane at that intersection.
