As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Lower Colorado River Authority has recorded Lake Travis at 697.5 feet, 2.5 feet past Tuesday’s predicted high level of 695. LCRA projections now show a possible rise to 700 feet, 19 feet over 100 percent capacity for Lake Travis, by mid-day Wednesday.

The LCRA worked all Tuesday and into Wednesday morning opening flood gates from the LCRA lake dam system, including Buchanan, Inks, Wirtz, Starcke, Travis and Tom Miller. LCRA Public Information Officer Clara Tuma said the last time a flood gate was opened from each of the dams in the system was 2016.

Texas Department of Transportation crews are working to close highways and remove debris from roads all over the Texas Hill Country as dozens of state roadways have been flooded, a press release states.

TxDOT Public Information Officer Bradley Wheelis said that a major priority for crews in the Hill Country area right now is low water crossings. He emphasized that www.drivetexas.org is one of the best resources for residents to check road closures during situations of inclement weather.

“We understand there could be more rain, if the river crests again, we could see more flooding. The situation is very fluid right now, so crews are remaining out and on the ready so we can respond as soon as we see water pooling or any other road damage,” Wheelis said. “With regard to the weather we are watching the forecast just like anyone else.”

Wheelis said that if drivers see water pooling, they should not try to drive over it as just a little bit of water can overtake a car. He added that drivers should follow main routes whenever possible because those are often well inspected and maintained.

Crews will inspect the damage and determine the best method to repair the bridge once the water recedes, the release states.
