Lakeway City Council member Jean Hennagin announced Wednesday afternoon that she is resigning from her position.

"Personal commitments over the next two months will cause me to miss several council, budget and committee meetings," Hennagin told Community Impact Newspaper Wednesday afternoon. "Under these circumstances, I feel it is in the best interest of the city for me to resign my council seat as of this Friday."

Hennagin has lived in Lakeway for about 10 years and has also served on the Lakeway Zoning and Planning Commission and volunteered with the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce. She has been a council member since 2016 and ran for Lakeway mayor this past May against current mayor Sandy Cox and Tiffany McMillan.

“I am sad to see Jean leave, but I am pleased that she has committed to help the city find a consultant to launch its public engagement advisory committee,” Lakeway Mayor Sandy Cox said later in a statement.

Communications Coordinator Devin Monk said the city thanks Hennagin for several years of service and commitment to the Lakeway community.

Cox said she expects the city to take action to address the resignation at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting on July 16.
