Bee Cave residents will get a chance to celebrate the city's 30th anniversary during an event Sept. 27 at City Hall, according to the city manager.

"We’re a young city, incorporated in 1987. We’ve had a lot of happen in our brief history,” City Manager Travis Askey told Community Impact Newspaper.

The former village of Bee Cave has roots dating back to the 1850s and took its name from the colonies of Mexican honeybees that lived in the banks of Barton Creek, according to the website TexasHillCountry.com.

The celebration at city hall (see map below) runs from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 27 and will include photo displays from the Bee Cave Historical Society. Light snacks and giveaway bags will also be offered to visitors who are also being encouraged to bring and share their own memories of Bee Cave's development and history.

As for Bee Cave's future, in late 2016, city leaders approved a comprehensive plan laying out a visioning plan through 2037.

“For as much as we’ve grown, we’re still a small city. So for the folks that are here, (they desire) a high quality of life, great school districts,” said Askey, who has worked with the municipality since 2004 and was appointed city manager in 2014.

Askey told council members at Wednesday's council meeting the Sept. 27 date was picked so it would not interfere with other planned events happening around the Hill Country Galleria this fall, such as October's Rolling Sculpture Car Show, which raises funds for the Bee Cave library.
