Following Wednesday night’s City Council meeting, Rollingwood residents can anticipate more area drainage projects and the construction of a Pilates studio in the coming months.

Drainage improvements for Hatley, Nixon drives on the way

City Council approved a task order in the amount of $16,100 with its engineering firm LNV Inc. to begin surveying and designing drainage improvements to the cross culvert at the corner of Nixon and Pleasant drives.

LNV engineer Marcus Naiser said the project would increase the diameter of the existing culvert and make adjustments in easements as needed to improve drainage capacity and reduce soil erosion.

LNV will also look at designing a new valley gutter at Park Hills and Hatley drives, he said. An existing valley gutter near the corner of Hatley and Nixon will be modified as well, Naiser said.

Construction estimates for the combined projects are expected to be around $60,000, he said.

Club Pilates coming to Rollingwood

City Council granted a special-use permit to Club Pilates to operate at Rollingwood Plaza, 2712 Bee Caves Road, Ste. 122B, Rollingwood.

Design plans are still being submitted to the city, and construction will begin once permitting is completed, project architect Michael Strouse told Community Impact Newspaper Thursday morning. He said he hopes the studio will be open by late fall.

National Night Out

The city will be participating in National Night Out on Aug. 1, Rollingwood Police Chief Dayne Pryor said at the meeting.

The event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime efforts and strengthen police-community partnerships.

City Council approved use of the lower part of Rollingwood Park for the event from 6-9 p.m. Council also approved street closures on Nixon from Gentry Drive to Park Hills from 5-9 p.m.

Public hearing scheduled for Aug. 3

The city’s planning and zoning commission will hold a public hearing Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. to discuss an amendment to the city’s drainage manual that could allow approved underground drainage facilities to be placed within a property setback.

Nonconforming structures and reconstructions will also be discussed at the public hearing, according to a public notice posted to the city’s website July 17.

City Council listened to public comments regarding underground drainage facilities Wednesday but did not take action.

The public hearing will take place at City Hall, 403 Nixon Drive, Rollingwood.
