West Lake Hills City Council said it wants to keep the property tax rate the same for the next fiscal year. The council met Aug. 10 to set the proposed fiscal year 2016-17 property tax rate—$0.0572 per $100 of assessed valuation—and schedule public hearings, which will be held Aug. 24 and Sept. 14. Last year, council members raised the tax rate by $0.0038. It was the first time since 2006 the West Lake Hills property tax rate had changed. “Our tax rate is just phenomenally low,” Mayor Linda Anthony said. Budget documents show the city is expected to receive an increase of $81,680 in property taxes for FY 2016-17 from new property. On July 20, City Council discussed setting aside $3.3 million in a savings account during the next fiscal year. City Council will adopt the tax rate Sept. 28.
