Lakeway EMDR is celebrating five years of business in March.

Diving in deeper

Owner Karen Goldapp opened the business in 2020. Goldapp is a licensed clinical social worker specialized in treating trauma, dissociation, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and more.

More details

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, or EMDR, is a form of therapy that uses eye movements, tapping or other kinds of bilateral stimulation to help clients change negative beliefs about themselves to positive beliefs, Goldapp said in an email. This helps clients to "get past their past," a phrase created by educator and psychologist Francine Shapiro, the inventor of EMDR, Goldapp said.

“These negative beliefs drive our symptoms of inadequacy, performance anxiety, low self-esteem, addictions and more,” Goldapp said. “The symptoms are just the leaves of the tree...trauma is the root of our unwanted behaviors, and reprocessing the trauma is an efficient and gentle way to improvement.”

What else?

The treatment is offered in-person for adults in individual sessions as either cash-pay, two-day weekend intensives or weekly one-hour sessions. Lakeway EMDR is in network with Aetna, United Healthcare and Cigna, Goldapp said. Current openings are available for weekly and intensive therapy.
