From art festivals to mermaids, here are eight events to check out in the Lake Travis area in May and June.

Live on the Lawn


As part of the tail end of the Hill Country Galleria’s outdoor concert series, Tanna Nikole will perform May 24 and Sheridan Reed will perform May 31. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket to lounge on the Central Plaza Lawn.Aloha Pool Party

Hosted by the Lakeway Swim Center, the event will allow attendees to learn authentic Hula dance, play luau games, swim in the leisure pool and more. Chick-fil-A with Polynesian sauce will be available through concessions. While drop-in rates apply, the event is free for summer membership pass holders.4th Annual Summer Arts Festival


Contracommon’s annual celebration of art and music held on the Hill Country Galleria’s Central Lawn will feature over 35 creative vendors, live music and free art activities. The organization is an artist-led nonprofit that provides digital and physical workspaces for rising artists.June

Mermaid Day


The event will allow attendees to swim alongside “real” mermaids, take photos and hear a story from a mermaid at the Lakeway Swim Center. Games and door prizes will also be offered.

Anything Goes

Set on an ocean liner sailing from New York to London, the romantic musical comedy with twice as much music as the 1962 version follows the antics of stowaway Billy Crocker as he tries to win the heart of Hope Harcourt, a beautiful woman engaged to British aristocrat Lord Evelyn. The show marks the grand opening of TexARTS Theatre & Academy in its new, larger location.Southern Snow Shaved Ice


Shaved ice truck Southern Snow will provide a handmade treat with fresh fruit, extracts and cane sugar at the Lake Travis Community Library.Blues on the Green

ACL Radio will host a family- and pet-friendly event at Zilker Park where attendees can listen to music from an array of Austin-based artists from numerous genres. Interactive activities and a “Blues Beer Garden” for drinks from Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Meanwhile Brewing will also be available.Musician Jonas Alvarez

The Lake Travis Community Library will host a live performance from musician Jonas Alvarez, who offers a mix of Latin sounds and Americana roots. The Austin Music Awards recognized his group, Jonas Alvarez Band, as one of the best Latin traditional bands in 2011. The performance is for all ages.
