Staying connected is more important than ever these days—something Marc Oliveri, the founder of home automation company Mero Concepts, can attest to. Since October 2013, Mero Concepts has provided home automation technology solutions to the Greater Austin area from surveillance cameras and voice-automated lights, speakers and temperature controls to complete media room or outdoor entertainment retrofitting.

The company works with clients from the design consultation to delivering the end product, offering remote repair work, 24/7 support coverage and other service plans to ensure all of the systems are up to date and running smoothly.

Prior to starting the business, Oliveri was working at Apple and found himself helping a friend who was trying to install security and audio systems for his restaurant. After seeing how they struggled working with the system’s integrator—the person or company who helps bring the end product all together—the business idea for Mero Concepts snowballed, Oliveri said.

In the decade since, home automation technology and smart home tools, such as Alexa and Google Home, have made their way into households across the world. Looking back on the early days of Mero Concepts, Oliveri said he believes the automation market was on its way to being as lucrative as it is now—but the key was finding the simplest way to go about implementing services.

"Systems were more complex,” Oliveri said. “I think now the bigger companies have seen a way to make it a simpler, easier process, but there’s still a need for companies like ourselves to go in and bring it all together or at least design the idea, take all those ideas and make it a cohesive system.”

Mero Concepts works with both residential and “light commercial” clients, such as restaurants, law offices, doctor’s offices and private preschools.

“We’ll work with anybody that sees value in what we do,” Oliveri said. “We take a boutique approach to that whole discussion. We’re going to use common goods, but we’re going to personalize it to you. ... How do we make it really simple for the end user?”
