Next month three new businesses will call Lakeway Town Center, off Lohmans Crossing Road and RM 620 in Lakeway, home.

  1. Hill Country Cakery will move into 2127 Lohmans Crossing, Ste. 310, in August. The space, recently vacated by Sweet and adjacent to Flores Mexican Restaurant, will be the first brick-and-mortar location for the bakery, said owner Tammy Waxler, who has been serving the Lake Travis community for about six years. She said she relocated from Houston in 2009 and has focused on wedding cakes and baked goods. 512-228-9300. www.hillcountrycakery.com

  2. Northwest Austin residents Laura Hopkins and Gary Cobb will open Wild Bird Center of Lakeway, 2127 Lohmans Crossing, Ste. 316, in mid-August, and Laura said the couple has long-term plans to move to the area within the next two years. The shop will be oriented to backyard birding, including bird houses, feeders, seed and baths, Laura said. It will be the third Texas location and the first Austin-area site of the national chain. The pair have 20 years' experience in backyard birding and lived on a bird migratory path in their native Chicago area, she said. “For us, [birding] is a stress-buster,” Laura said. “It’s nice to sit on the deck, have a glass of wine and enjoy the birds and their sounds.” 301-229-9585. www.wildbird.com

  3. Hops and Thyme, 2125 Lohmans Crossing, Ste. 400, will open in late September. The beer garden will also feature bread and desserts baked by Hill Country Cakery as well as short ribs and a selection of local and non-local beers. www.hopsandthyme.com
