Kara King, a Bee Cave City Council member, will take over as mayor of Bee Cave in May.

Since no one filed to run against King in the May general election, King will take over for Mayor Pro Tem Bill Goodwin, who has been running City Council meetings since former Mayor Monty Parker tendered his resignation Dec. 16, citing an urgent work opportunity close to San Antonio. Parker has publicly endorsed King since she announced her ambition to run for mayor.

In a Feb. 14 Facebook post, King said she is happy to take over the position.

"I’m so excited, and honored to be your next Bee Cave mayor!" King wrote. "Thank you for trusting me! Until I take the seat in Mid-May, I will hold a series of community gatherings for you to talk to me about what you want for the next 2 years."

King also congratulated Goodwin and Council Member Jon Cobb, who were up for re-election but also faced no opposition as of the Feb. 14 candidate filing deadline for the May election.

Bee Cave City Secretary Kaylynn Holloway said in an email statement the election can be canceled if no one files as a write-in candidate prior to the deadline Feb. 18 at 5 p.m.
