Due to what city officials describe as a mass influx of traffic resulting from the nearby Austin Trail of Lights event at Zilker Park, conditions have become unsafe for Rollingwood residents, according to city staff, who added the inundation of extra vehicles has restricted access to homes and emergency vehicles.

Because of the extra traffic, residential roads in Rollingwood will remain closed to through traffic every day from 5-10 p.m. until Dec. 23, the last day of the event.

The closures do not apply to Rollingwood residents, and the city will employ one police officer at a barricade at Paige and Stratford Drives, according to information from city staff.

Motorists "will also encounter unmanned barricades at Stratford and Ashworth [drives], Ridgewood [Road] and Hatley [Drive], and Riley [Road] and Hatley [Drive]. Residents will be allowed in and out and around the barricades, but event attendees will not," the information states. "Please make adjustments to your commute, if necessary. We will continue to evaluate conditions and may make adjustments as circumstances dictate. As always, please contact us at City Hall at 512-327-1838 or [email protected] with any questions or concerns."
