A Southwest Austin emergency physician started a mobile, on-demand urgent care service Dec. 7, describing it as an “Uber for healthcare.”
Dr. Jeremy Gabrysch launched
Remedy to bring urgent care to a patient’s location, whether it is at home or work. Remedy offers services for illnesses such as fever, sore throat, burns, rashes, strains, sprains and minor fractures. Remedy’s physicians also perform physical examinations, such as ones required by schools and work.
Remedy currently serves patients in South and Southwest Austin, but Gabrysch said he plans expand the coverage area throughout Austin. The urgent care service also will launch a smartphone app with on-demand appointment scheduling Jan. 12.
“What we’re trying to do with Remedy is take care of people at home where they are comfortable and where it is convenient, without all the bells and whistles of a hospital emergency room,” Gabrysch said.
Prior medical work overseas and domestically inspired Gabrysch to launch Remedy in Austin, he said.
Gabrysch practiced at the Seton Medical Center emergency room from 2005-11. Working in the U.S., Gabrysch learned that a lot of the emergencies in the ER were minor and could be treated with fewer resources. He also had overseas medical experience in Africa during this time, he said.
In 2012, Gabrysch moved to southern Ethiopia to work at a nonprofit 150-bed hospital as a chief medical officer, overseeing the clinical operations such as deliveries, surgeries and emergency care.
“It’s very difficult to get medical supplies in Africa, but given the limitations, we were still able to help a lot of people,” Gabrysch said.
