The GISD closure includes regular school hours, extracurricular programs, athletic events, and the COVID-19 test center at Pickett Elementary School and the GISD Health & Wellness Clinic at Richarte High School.
GISD announced Thursday afternoon that school facilities will remain closed Feb. 4.
"Our goal is always to keep schools open for students as long as it is safe to do so, and we make our decisions with their best interests and safety in mind," GISD Superintendent Fred Brent said in the release.
Georgetown city officials also issued a multitude of closures for Feb. 3-4, including:
- City Hall, 808 Martin Luther King Jr. St.
- Public Library, 402 W. Eighth St.
- Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.
- Airport Terminal, 500 Terminal Drive
- Grace Heritage Center, 817 S. Main St.
According to its website, Georgetown's maintenance crews began winterizing and closing public restrooms and water fountains early Feb. 2 and will likely remain closed until Feb. 7 according to the release.
The city is waiting for updates from the Texas Disposal System regarding curbside and facility pickup.

According to the National Weather Service, the Austin metro can expect to see a quarter-inch of ice Feb. 3 with a "medium to high confidence" that freezing rain and sleet will affect road conditions throughout the day. A weather advisory will be in effect until 9 p.m., Feb. 3 and a flood warning until 7:30 a.m., Feb. 4.
With last year's storm in hindsight, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas has also issued a watch effective through Feb. 6.
No major outages have been reported.
"ERCOT is using all the tools available to manage the grid effectively during this winter weather," interim CEO Brad Jones said in a release.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott will provide a state-wide update at the Alternate State Operations Center Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m.
