“As we continue to assess conditions, monitor district facilities and connect with local authorities, it is clear that a return to school this week is simply not possible,” Superintendent Fred Brent said in the release.
Brent added that the district is working to return students to classes on Feb. 22, but if that changes, families will be notified.
The canceling of classes means campus offices and buildings will also remain closed through Feb. 19. All activities at district facilities have also been canceled, and the district's monthly board meeting has been rescheduled for Feb. 23.
“We know that this is a difficult time for our community and our thoughts are with you,” Brent said.
