With close to 80 percent of precincts reporting as of 11:30 p.m., incumbent state Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, is poised to win re-election in District 5 with 55.47 percent of vote. Democratic candidate Meg Walsh received 41.49 percent of the vote, and Libertarian candidate Amy Lyons received 3.02 percent. Results are unofficial until canvassed. “I am sincerely honored and humbled by tonight’s victory,” Schwertner said in a statement from his campaign Tuesday night.  “Serving the people of this community has been the honor of my life, and with the election now behind us, I’m eager to get back to work fighting for the families of Senate District 5.”
