The city of Georgetown has installed or planned for several new traffic signals at intersections throughout the city.

The need for these 11 signals was identified through a safety evaluation metric.

The details

The following signals are now in operation:
  • FM 1460 and LaConterra Boulevard
  • FM 1460 and Quail Valley Drive
  • Wolf Ranch Parkway and Southwest Bypass
  • Temporary signal at Wolf Ranch Parkway and Legacy Drive
  • Temporary signal at Wolf Ranch Parkway and Rivery Driveway
  • Temporary signal at Sam Houston Avenue and Rockride Lane
Temporary signals are typically installed as a placeholder until permanent signals are completed, or for safety during short-term disruptions.

The following signals are in the works:
  • Temporary signal at Williams Drive and CR 245, expected by late 2025
  • Ronald Reagan Boulevard and CR 245, expected by early 2026
  • Ronald Reagan Boulevard and FM 3405, expected by mid-2027
Additionally, signals at Northwest Boulevard and Lakeway Drive, and at Westinghouse Road and Maple Street, are in design.

Some context

Georgetown continuously monitors traffic conditions and evaluates intersections on a series of factors to determine the need for a traffic signal, city officials said in an email.

Considerations include vehicle and pedestrian traffic count, the volume of traffic at peak hour, crash data and the overall roadway network. These factors come from guidelines from the Federal Highway Administration and Texas Department of Transportation, city officials said.

Each intersection is scored through an engineering and traffic study, which guides the city in planning for new traffic signals.
