Williamson County Communications Director Connie Odom said this is the beginning of a multiyear program to address roadways with sub-standard width.
According to the county, the modern design standard minimum lane width is 11 feet for rural roads. Williamson County has many roadways where the total width is less than 22 feet. This causes vehicles to pull off the road to enable oncoming traffic to pass.
Odom said the program does not have a list of specific roads developed yet, and commissioners will each need to review the roads in their precincts to determine where the greatest need is.
The county maintains 1,500 miles of roads over a 1,135-square-mile area.
