Volunteers will help clear pavilions of sand and debris, remove debris from trash cans and benches, and more, according to a city news post.
What you need to know
People interested in assisting with flood recovery efforts may sign up here to volunteer July 29 from 9-11 a.m. and July 31 from 4-6 p.m. at San Gabriel Park.
Advanced registration is required, and volunteers are encouraged to come in closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty, according to city officials.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves, eye protection and shovels, but cleanup equipment will also be provided on-site, along with water and light snacks.
Those 13-years-old and younger are not permitted at the event, and people ages 13-15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
By the numbers
City officials anticipate requesting $9.6 million through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance program, according to a July 22 presentation from Emergency Management Coordinator Christine Rogers.
The PA program allows local governments to apply for FEMA assistance to be reimbursed for 75% of costs related to disaster rescue and recovery efforts, as well as damage to public property, Community Impact previously reported.
“We are documenting the costs, and we can only restore things to pre-disaster condition,” Rogers said.
As of July 21, city officials have removed 3,740 cubic yards of debris. One cubic yard of debris is roughly equal to the size of a washing machine, Rogers said.
