Updated July 8, 7 p.m.

City of Georgetown engineers, inspectors and contractors have confirmed the south Austin Avenue bridge over the San Gabriel River is safe to reopen.

The bridge had previously been closed following a sharp rise in the river’s water level July 5.

The details

The trails under the Austin Avenue bridges will remain closed until further notice, according to a post on the city’s Facebook.

The western side of the north bridge will also stay closed for ongoing construction.

Looking ahead

Officials said in the post the city may need to close one lane of the south bridge over the next few weeks to address scaffolding issues.

The city encourages motorists to use caution and follow traffic signage when driving in the area.
