Beginning on May 20, Williamson County’s Berry Springs Park and Preserve, located at 1801 CR 152, Georgetown, will be temporarily closed due to construction on the park’s main entrance road, according to a county news release.

In a nutshell

Estimated to last approximately three weeks, the construction is part of the larger improvements projects the county broke ground on March 8, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

Improvements include:
  • A new visitors center and headquarters
  • A new maintenance and storage facility
  • A new open-air group pavilion
  • Expanded paved parking
  • An additional restroom
  • An extension to the Meadow Loop Trail system
Williamson County Commissioners Court earmarked $5.9 million for park improvements. According to previous reporting, these funds were secured through 2023 voter-approved bonds and capital improvement funds. All projects are estimated to be completed by spring 2025.

What else?

Berry Springs Park and Preserve offers visitors a 300-acre greenspace complete with shaded areas, trails, play equipment, creekside views and a century-old pecan grove. Berry Springs is also home to two donkeys—known as Lil’ Bob and Pedro—who will remain on site throughout construction. They will be housed in a fenced barnyard adjacent to the new headquarters site.

Minor closures are expected throughout the 10- to 12-month improvement period.

Quote of note

“It’s really hard to improve much on such a beautiful park,” Precinct 3 County Commissioner Valerie Covey said. “We know how sensitive this park is with the creek and all the native plants. We want to take care of this area and keep it beautiful for all Williamson County residents to enjoy.”
