POPPtober Fest 2020, a rescheduled and reimagined Red Poppy Festival planned for Oct. 23-25, has been canceled.

City of Georgetown staff recommended it be canceled due to uncertainty about the COVID-19 situation in the fall, Community Services Director Jack Daly said to council members on July 14.

Daly noted the Austin City Limits music festival and San Antonio’s Fiesta festival—both fall events—have already been cancelled.

“Public health is the chief concern,” Daly said. “[POPPtober Fest/Red Poppy Festival] is also funded and operated out of our tourism fund. Of all our revenues, that one has been the most affected by COVID-19.”

He said holding the festival in October and having Red Poppy Festival 2021 in April would mean two festivals in one fiscal year.

Council agreed unanimously that POPPtober Fest should be canceled.

The 2020 Red Poppy Festival was originally canceled March 16.
