A handful of Georgetown ISD campuses will serve breakfast and lunch to students 18 years old and younger beginning June 2.

What you need to know

According to a news release from GISD, meals will be offered Monday-Thursday from 7-9 a.m. and 10:30-1 p.m. through Aug. 7 at the following schools:
  • Purl Elementary School
  • Tippit Middle School
  • East View High School
  • Georgetown High School
Additionally, Tippit will be the only site open on Fridays.

The meals are free, and families do not need to register or provide identification to pick up meals, the release states.

The context

The food is offered through the Texas Summer Meals Program, which is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Since more than 20% of Texas children experience hunger, the program ensures access to consistent and nutritious meals when school isn't in session, per the release.
