Georgetown ISD officials approved contracts for fiber optic networks to be installed at three new campuses that are currently under construction at a March meeting.

What happened

Trustees approved a contract with Astound Business Solutions to provide the infrastructure and service for fiber optic networks at Elementary School No. 12, Middle School No. 5 and High School No. 4 on March 25.

The contract includes $1.6 million in construction costs, which the district expects to be reduced to $640,000 after it is reimbursed through the state's e-Rate program, district documents show. It is funded by the 2024 bond.

The details

The contract term is 120 months, which is 10 years. The annual lease on the fiber at all three campuses will be $1,350.

Per the district, Astound Business Solutions is in the process of becoming GISD's primary fiber service provider.
