Georgetown ISD celebrated the opening of a brand-new campus on Aug. 13. San Gabriel Elementary School, located in Liberty Hill, is the district's 11th elementary school and will serve the growing student population in the district's northwest.

About the project

San Gabriel Elementary School, a project of the 2021 bond, was built using a design based on those of elementary campuses opened by the district in 2020, per GISD staff. The $49.3 million school took just over a year to build, as the reuse of designs saved the district both design costs and time.

It will house about 850 students, relieving other elementary schools within the district that would otherwise be at or near capacity.

The campus sits on 14.4 acres in the Tierra Rosa community in Liberty Hill.

What they're saying

"Getting the opportunity to open San Gabriel is a huge honor and responsibility, and I do not take it lightly," said Rebecca Lambert, San Gabriel's first principal. "I know you have options when it comes to where you send your kids to school. In fact, there are schools that can maybe hear me right now on this microphone. My commitment to you and our commitment at San Gabriel is that we are going to set the bar high for our students, and we are going to collaborate with family and communities to make sure that learning happens."

How we got here

In 2021, Georgetown voters approved two of three bond propositions, authorizing the district to issue $333.42 million in bonds for school facilities and capital improvement as well as $16.5 million in bonds for technology infrastructure and equipment.
